A Decade with the Hubs

Cheesy post alert: the hubs and I have been together 10 years. We've been married for five, but we started dating back in 2008 and holy shit. 

Time flies.

We've lived in Spain, our hometown, a town so small they called it a Village, and now in one of the fastest growing cities in the US. We've had six different jobs (3 each), two dogs, three apartments all within the same complex, and tons of obnoxious inside jokes. 

I wanted to reflect on 10 things I've learned after being with this guy for a decade because a) I love reflecting b) ten years is 1/3 of my life and c) I feel pretty damn lucky. 

1.) Find a musical compromise. We only agree on about ten bands and make it a priority to listen to ones we both like. (I like Jock James, he prefers Indie Rock)
2.) NEVER finish a TV series without the other person. It starts a war.
3.) Learn how to solve conflict--because it will happen. 
4.) Do things together, but also have your own thing. (He has baseball, I have writing)
5.) Have your own definition of weird.
6.) Support each other's quirks, even if they are absurd.
7.) Balance each other out. I'm impulsive, he's rational. It's perfect.
8.) Find routines that work for you (I get groceries, he puts them away)
9.) Sometimes, the perfect date is take-out and Netflix. 
​10.) Humor is everything. Be silly. Be stupid. Laugh together. 

I am goddamn lucky I've had ten years of adventures with a guy who accepts my weird obsession with Harry Potter, who lets me eat all the pickles because he knows I love them, and who encouraged the hell out of me when I said I wanted to write.
